HSB Legacy Society Luncheon

Hospice of Santa Barbara August 16, 2018

Hospice of Santa Barbara’s Shining Light Legacy Society was established in 2017 to recognize those forward-thinking individuals who have chosen to leave their legacy to Hospice of Santa Barbara through their thoughtful estate planning. On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, members of the Legacy Society were joined by members of the Planned Giving Advisory Committee during a luncheon held at the home of Jeanne West.

Honorees were treated to a panoramic view of the Santa Barbara harbor as they feasted on lunch followed by freshly baked pies lovingly prepared by their gracious hostess.

Judy Goodbody, Hospice of Santa Barbara’s Planned Giving Officer welcomed the newest members of the Legacy Society, longtime HSB counselor Suzanne Retzinger and her husband Tom Scheff, former HSB board president and longtime volunteer Linda Yawitz, and CEO David Selberg. All four made their intentions known to leave their legacy to Hospice of Santa Barbara in their estate plans, bringing the number of living legacy members to 13. Judy also recognized those Legacy Society members who made their legacy commitments to HSB many years ago, including Pat Heller, Jackie Marston, Jeanne West, and Dana and Randy VanderMey.

The chair of the Planned Giving Advisory Committee, Lori Lewis who is an attorney and partner at Mullen & Henzell, introduced the members of her committee and thanked them for dedicating their time and talent to supporting Hospice of Santa Barbara’s Planned Giving program. This team includes Donna Dawson, CPA, Diane Doiron, CLU, and Suzi Schomer, Vice President of Montecito Bank + Trust, each bringing their years of estate planning expertise as part of the service provided to friends of Hospice of Santa Barbara.

David Selberg, Hospice of Santa Barbara’s CEO spoke about the growing needs for our services as the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragic Thomas Fire and Montecito Debris Flow. Children in our area have been particularly traumatized and that is why Hospice of Santa Barbara has counselors on hand at eleven local junior high and high school campuses throughout the county.

Longtime Legacy Society member, Jeanne West told her story of her personal experience with Hospice of Santa Barbara and why it is important to her to make a legacy gift that will provide for the continuation of services to the people of Santa Barbara for years to come. You can read Jeanne’s story on our website at http://hsbgift.org/?pageID=3&storyNum=5
